Switch Claude Desktop profiles with keyboard shortcuts
Switch lets you assign a global shortcut to each Claude Desktop profile. Press the assigned combination to switch accounts without opening the manager. The manager window can be closed, but Switch must remain running.
A guide from Switch, an independent Claude Desktop profile manager. Switch is currently a personal build; there is no public download yet.
Give each profile a memorable combination
Control–Command–1, Control–Command–2 and Control–Command–3 are simple examples for a small set of accounts. Switch’s shortcuts are editable, so choose combinations that fit the other tools you use. The assigned keys are shown beside the profiles in the manager.
Open Switch from its Dock icon and check the shortcut displayed for the account you want. Treat that displayed assignment as the source of truth. A profile name, color or position is a useful visual cue, but it does not tell you which keys are currently assigned.
Keep names recognizable too: a shortcut is easier to learn when the profile it selects has a consistent purpose. Our work and personal account guide covers naming and ordering.
Closing the manager is different from quitting Switch
The manager is a window into your profile list. Closing that window does not mean you have quit Switch. Global keyboard switching works with the window closed while the app stays running.
If you quit Switch, it cannot handle your profile shortcuts. Reopen it from its Dock icon when you want that behavior again. You can also select a profile directly in the manager or use its individual Dock icon.
This is why Switch is presented as a native manager with its own Dock icon. You do not need to work through a menu-bar-only interface.
Check a shortcut before relying on it
- Open the manager and confirm the intended profile’s displayed shortcut.
- Press that combination and confirm which Claude account opens.
- Close the manager window while leaving Switch running, then try again.
- If the combination is already used by another app, choose a different assignment and repeat the check.
This small check catches a mismatch between the keys you remember and the current assignment. It also separates a closed-window situation from an app that is no longer running.
There is no need to sign out of your other profiles to use a shortcut. Each profile keeps its own login. Account access and normal Claude usage limits still apply separately.
A profile shortcut selects an account
A shortcut does not transfer an open chat, send a prompt or create a project handoff. If you need a new Claude Code chat to continue a project, save a compact local checkpoint and open the same project folder in the next chat.
Profile switching makes no model requests. Optional support submission is a separate, deliberate action. Claude’s own connection to Anthropic continues normally. The current app is a personal build for macOS 14 or later; there is no public download on this site yet.
