Claude Desktop profiles for Mac
Run every Claude account as its own Claude Desktop profile, each with its own sign-in, colored Dock icon and keyboard shortcut, all open at once.
What a Claude Desktop profile is
Claude Desktop keeps one account signed in at a time. A Switch profile is a separate place for one account: Switch opens Anthropic’s own Claude Desktop app, unmodified, pointed at that profile’s own data folder. Each profile keeps its own sign-in and chats, so your work, personal and client accounts can all stay open at once.
Switch checks Claude’s signature before launching it and never patches, re-signs or wraps the app. Switch itself is a native Mac app built with SwiftUI.
Tell your accounts apart at a glance
Every profile gets a name and one of 16 colors. That color shows on its own Dock icon, so the right account is obvious before you type. One click tiles every open profile side by side, each window outlined in its color.
Switch accounts with a keystroke
Give each profile a global shortcut, such as Control–Command–1 for Work and Control–Command–2 for Personal. Shortcuts work from any app while Switch runs, even with its window closed. You can also click a profile’s Dock icon or choose it in the Switch window. Keyboard shortcut guide.
Claude Code in every profile
Each profile can keep its own Claude Code settings and history, and the skills and MCP servers you choose can be shared across all of them without copying credentials. How Switch handles Claude Code.
Profiles compared with the alternatives
- Signing out and in: free, but you lose your place every time.
- Browser profiles: free and fine for chat on claude.ai, but you don’t get Claude Desktop features such as its global shortcut, local files and desktop MCP extensions.
- Launching a second copy from Terminal with its own data folder: free, but each copy shares Claude’s name and Dock icon, there are no shortcuts, and you redo it after changes.
- Switch profiles: each account as its own colored app with a shortcut, set up once.
