Claude plans

Claude account types: Free, Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise and Console

Claude account types fall into three groups: individual plans (Free, Pro and Max), organization plans (Team and Enterprise), and Console accounts for the Claude API. A Console account is separate from a Claude account even on the same email. Many people end up with two: a company Team seat and a personal Pro plan.

A guide from Switch, an independent Claude Desktop profile manager. Switch is in early access ahead of its public release.

Individual plans: Free, Pro and Max

As of October 2026, Anthropic's pricing page lists these individual plans (US prices, before tax):

  • Free: $0. Chat on web, desktop and mobile, web search, file creation, memory and connectors. Projects are capped at five.
  • Pro: $20 a month billed monthly, or $17 a month on an annual plan ($200 up front). At least five times Free's usage per five-hour session, and includes Claude Code.
  • Max: from $100 a month. Max 5x is $100 and Max 20x is $200, monthly billing only. Five or 20 times Pro's per-session usage, priority access at busy times and monthly API credits (Max plan details).

Every plan has usage limits that reset on a rolling five-hour window, and paid plans add weekly limits. Activity in the web app, desktop, mobile and Claude Code all draws from the same pool for that account.

Claude Team accounts

A Claude Team account is a seat in an organization that a company pays for. As of October 2026, Team is for groups of 2 to 150 people, with two seat types:

  • Standard seat: $20 per seat a month billed annually, or $25 monthly, with more usage than Pro.
  • Premium seat: $100 per seat a month billed annually, or $125 monthly, with five times a standard seat's usage.

Team adds central billing, single sign-on, admin controls and no model training on your content by default (Claude pricing). One person can buy more than one Team plan to run separate teams (account management FAQs).

Claude Enterprise (business) accounts

People searching for a Claude business account usually mean Team or Enterprise. Enterprise is for larger organizations. As of October 2026 it costs $20 per seat a month, billed annually with a 20-seat minimum, plus usage billed at API rates. It includes everything in Team plus SCIM, audit logs, custom data retention, role-based access and spend limits set by admins. It can be bought self-serve or through Anthropic's sales team (Claude pricing).

Both Team and Enterprise accounts are controlled by the organization. Your admin decides who has a seat, and the organization's settings apply to that account.

Console accounts for the Claude API

The Claude Console is Anthropic's developer platform for API keys and building applications. A Console account is separate from your Claude account. You can use the same email for both, and the two operate independently (Claude and Console accounts).

API usage is billed separately from any paid Claude plan. Max and Team plans include monthly API credits, which you claim by linking a Console organization to the plan (why API usage is billed separately).

When you end up with two, and how to keep both handy

The most common pair is a company Team or Enterprise seat plus a personal Pro or Max plan. When you join an organization using the same email as your personal account, Anthropic lets you keep both and switch from your account menu, or move to the organization account only, which closes the personal one (find and join an organization). Custom skills and connected apps don't move either way.

If your work and personal accounts use different emails, you need two separate sign-ins. Each account keeps its own plan, billing and usage limits, and a second account is not a way to get more usage. Rotating accounts to avoid limits can conflict with Anthropic's Consumer Terms.

On a Mac, Switch gives each Claude Desktop account its own profile and colored Dock icon, and both stay signed in. See how to set up Switch and keep work and personal Claude accounts easy to tell apart.
